Club DCP Summary Grid

Submitted by Rob on Tue, 02/14/2017 - 10:56

In February 2014, the District 21 LGET Gene Vickers decided to try something new.

He compiled a list of all of the District 21 clubs and then coloured each of them according to their level of DCP project. He then wrote individual customized notes for each club outlining what he suggested to them. He called this the "Change Your Colour" contest with the idea being that the club, by increasing their DCP score would also shift their associated colour.

Darren Frew: The art of communication is evolving at a dramatic and unprecedented pace. Keeping abreast of these changes is confusing, frustrating and more necessary than ever before. Our next speaker, Darren Frew, has been immersed in this evolution for 25 years. During this time, he has been an active mentor fro graduate and undergrad students, as well as a variety of new business ventures. His primary focus as a mentor has been and remains: improving and enhancing communications. The title and theme of his keynote address is "Adapt and Survive - Communicating Now and in the Future".

How to Build a Toastmasters Club

Submitted by Rob on Tue, 12/06/2016 - 11:31

Congratulations on your exciting decision to start a Toastmasters club. Because of dedicated people like you, more than 1,000 new Toastmasters clubs are chartered each year and hundreds of thousands of people worldwide are becoming more successful communicators and leaders. In deciding to start a club, you have taken on an important leadership role. Ralph Smedley believed that people can discover their latent leadership talents by participating in the regular activities of a Toastmasters club.

Racquenteurs Toastmasters CONTESTS night

Racquenteurs
Start Date

I hope you had a great summer. It's almost back to school time...

Even if I have been out of school for years, I feel that September is always a time to regain the discipline that was lost a little bit during the summer...

I would like to invite you to come to our meeting on September 18 to see some of our club members compete with one another in two contests. A Tall Tale speech contest and a Table Topic Contest.

Tall Tale: This is a prepared speech, it has to be either an exaggerated, elaborate and or fictitious story of 3-5 mins long.

Table Topics are impromptu speeches. The purpose of the Table Topics section is to help members think on their feet and speak on a given subject for between 1 and 2 minutes.

Join our meetup to get updates: https://www.meetup.com/Racquenteurs-Toastmasters-Club-Vancouver/

The contest will be held in the Great Hall in the Center for Peace at 1825 W 16th Ave, Vancouver. You can park at the Canadian Memorial United Church & Center for Peace parking lot and walk into the center. It's on the main floor.

Vancouver Toastmasters Club #59 Meeting

Vancouver Toastmasters Club 59
Start Date

With around 60 members striving to improve their speaking skills, the Vancouver Toastmasters Club (#59) is a group of people supporting each other as we navigate our way through the speech projects of our Toastmasters manuals.  Gradually, each of us gets better week by week as we take small steps towards speaking confidently in front of a group.

We welcome new members who share a desire to improve their public speaking skills, reach personal goals, and help others gain confidence.  Guests are welcome to attend our meetings any time to learn more about the Toastmaster experience.

Vancouver Toastmasters Club (#59) meetings are held each Monday (except holidays) from 7 pm to 9 pm at:

Kitsilano Yacht Club
2401 Point Grey Rd., at Balsam
(West of Kits Pool)
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

The yacht club is located on the walking path below Point Grey Road.  The path can be accessed by taking the stairs directly below the point where Balsam Street meets Point Grey Road.  At the bottom of the stairs, walk west on the path 50 feet or so.  The yacht club is on the right past the chain link fence. Entrance to the club is on the east side of the building, through the gate in the chain link fence. The meeting starts at 7:00 pm.  If you arrive from 7:00 pm - 7:10 pm, please stand by the chain link fence.  A member will open the chain link fence door for you during this time and direct you to the meeting space.

During winter months, we advise you to bring a flashlight as the approach to the yacht club can be dark.  Request someone to meet you at the stairs if you are at all concerned.  Once inside, you will find the interior full of warm, welcoming Toastmasters and a beautiful view of the cityscape! If you have any questions about our club, please email us at vpm@tmclub59.com

Thanks, and we look forward to seeing you soon!!
